I haven't read a John Green novel since "The Fault in Our Stars." That was one of the first books that made me openly sob and I feel like this had the same feel of absolute raw emotions. "Turtles All the Way Down" focuses on a protagonist with major anxiety and intrusive thinking, something I can relate to though mine is in no way as compulsive or severe. All the same, I felt myself connecting with her as well as connecting to the best friend, Daisy, who is both a supporter of her friend and finds the weight of her mental illness exhausting. Green manages to make them both sympathetic and their friendship is the main staple of the book in my eyes despite some romance plots that seem like they might take over. In the end, the real connection is between friends and I feel like that is an imperatively important message to both ends of young adults and teens and anyone that may read the book-- the Azas and the Daisys. Support and communication is the most important thing that can be offered.

Overall the writing is spendid-- though I am a fan of very descriptive and 'prosey' writing. The characterization and the growth we see is also wonderful. This is a book I would happily add to my physical shelf.

So i read this book in less than 24 hours. I swore myself off of John Green but you know what, according to Goodreads i’ve read all of his books. I’m not going to stop now. This was legitimately one of his best books to date. Includes a great discussion in taking medicine for MI, MH in general and the effect it can have on others. A brilliant book with important discussions. If i was rating this book out of all of his other books it would be a 5/5 but out of all of the books i’ve read it is a 3/5. Another thing is that going into this i was very worried it would be a book i cannot enjoy because it’s too young for me (you know the YA books that just centre around school) but this was definitely not the case- i think being older really made me appreciate this book way more than if i was 15.
