Wasn’t expecting all the twists and appreciated them but wasn’t totally drawn in the entire time

3.5 Stars - usually I love ambiguous endings, but for some reason this didn't feel very well planned and rather blunt.

I have mixed feelings about this story. I will say I was instantly hooked at the first twist. The first of five or six, I think.
While I was hooked at the first twist, I think there is such a thing as too many twists. And one of the twists really made no sense. The groundwork for the twist was there, but the character development was lacking to make it believable.
I enjoyed the Murray chapters most. I think this novel could have been written with him as the mai character, who is drawn into this case that has already been closed.
I had trouble connecting to the main character, Anna. She seemed to be one of the least fleshed out characters. There was nothing to recommend her, I think.
I've enjoyed other novels by this author, so I will read more. This one was just not for me.

Let Me Lie combines a psychological thriller with a bit of hands on investigation, and the result is an entertaining page turner that will make you chuckle with glee as you figure out the what, but lets you wonder about the why and the how until the very end.

Anna doesn't believe that her parents died via suicide. She is adamant that they were murdered. A year after the cases closed, she receives a message that changes everything. Seeking help from retired investigator Murray, the dangers of not letting things lie will become clear.

So, I really love Clare Mackintosh's writing of psychological thrillers. She writes a compelling read with lots of twists and turns. While there are definitely some that you can see coming, there's always one or two small curveballs at the end that I really enjoy. Definitely recommend for the writing and plot.

The part that I had more trouble with is the emphasis on motherhood in the narration. While I understand that the target demographic for these books is 30-something women, the narration is constantly preaching about how much your life changes when you have a baby and the miracle of life and so forth. I don't mind reading about a young mother as a protagonist, but this book I found so in my face about it, it was a bit of a turn-off, honestly. I'm also not sure how I feel about the characterization of Sarah. Parts of the portrayal of her mental illness were decently done, and parts...were less so.

This one is a bit of a mixed bag for me, but the thriller aspects were well done.
