Just a perfect novel. This was my second time reading through, and it was just as powerful as the first read.Ā

Zora Neale Hurstonā€™s words are pure poetry. The story is a beautiful and complex character study, above all else. I would not change a thing. Who would?

Scholars agree that it is one of the finest books ever written, but since I am not a scholar, Iā€™ll simply say that it is one of the best books Iā€™ve ever read. Ā

I had to read this for my college English class and this book is great and it had a crazy ending! I gave it a 3/5 stars because although the plot/story is good I couldnā€™t get past the horrible dialogue. I was having a really hard time understanding the speech. I eventually did figure most of it out but sometimes I had to read the sentences multiple times just to understand.Ā

I am both glad that I read this as a full-on adult, so I could properly appreciate it, and that I read it via audiobook, narrated by Ruby Dee, who does an excellent job with all the different voices.

Iā€™m torn because I LOVE the idea of this plot. I loved the ending, actually.Ā

I didnā€™t love this ā€œlove storyā€ between Janie and Tea Cake. It was a toxic relationship, and he was abusive. That love story ultimately played a big role and Janie really held on to that love until the end. I wanted better for her after Jody and Logan.
