A fine collection of short stories, but at times repetitive and nowhere near as good as THE RESISTERS, Jen's earlier novel. She's a great writer, and this collection had more hits than misses, but still struck me as a bit inconsistent.

there were parts of this that read slower but I really did love the stories and the ways the lives were all interconnected.

Lovely collection of stories. My favorite was “Rothko, Rothko,” with its layers of questions about integrity, authenticity, reverence, art, and ambition. “It’s the Great Wall!” was also especially beautiful, with the reverberations of relations between mother, daughter, sisters, comrades. Honestly I would have read a whole novel about Opal…

“No politics, just make money” is a great family motto.
