I didn’t anticipate how sad this story was. It was beautiful, the artwork and the story. The golden words were hard on my eyes to read. I wish I had known the tone ahead of time, but I overall really enjoyed it. It’s clear a lot of care and attention to detail went into it.

absolutely beautifully illustrated, if you've see the cave painting of the bear (you know the one with the lovely line weight and depth) then you have an idea of the simplicity and weight that the imagery  of this book conveys.  That in addition to beautiful water colorful and continually compelling and  story driven use of color  brings this tragic tale to wonderful beautiful beautiful beautiful life

Very interesting and complex story, told in gorgeous illustrated style. I'm going to seek out the folk tale(s) its retelling for more context, and I'm curious to see how the story i got out of it will line up with the inspiration
