Picked this up after starting the anime. I love it.

I loved every moment of this manga. From the very first chapter I was emotionally invested in Frieren and her team of adventurers, and this only increased as the decades passed and she began to outlive them. I also adored the growing bond between her and an apprentice.

My only minor issue with the book is quite common with manga - that each chapter is quite episodic; I would have liked to see more of an overarching plot. Still, there is a very satisfying overarching character arc and the ending sets up volume 2 very nicely.

This is heartwarming and full of magic and friendship, I loved it.

I'm having trouble finding words for how I feel about this title. I can't wait to read the whole series, but I'm also preparing to have my heart poked, prodded, broken, and repaired. Life really is too short sometimes.

Thanks to VIZ Media and NetGalley for the free eARC!
