Despite knowing how the story goes as far as who they end up with and where they end up this was still a really enjoyable and comforting read. Agnarr and Iduna are an adorable couple from very early on in the book and have some lovely moments together.

It was also nice to see aspects of the movies being pulled in tying the story together with the rest of the Frozen story.
It was nice to find out where that terrible 'concel, don't feel' thing came from too. This made some of Agnarr and Iduna's more questionable parenting choices make sense.

A sweet, empowering love story that gives us more insight to the parents of Anna and Elsa in the Frozen series. Because of the tragic end to Iduna and Agnarr's story, we don't get to learn much about who they are as individuals, parents, or a couple in the Frozen movies. In fact, in the first Frozen movie I can't say I was much of a fan of the two due to the choices they made regarding Elsa, but knowing about their past and their reasoning behind their choices redeems them as characters in my eyes.

The only mild complaint I have about this book was how rushed it sometimes felt. In order to fit all of their story into one book, there was no avoiding having to rush it along at times, but I think their story could have been drawn out a lot more enabling the readers to get to know these characters even better. I greatly enjoyed the many allusions to themes and sayings we first saw in the Frozen films, with each one making me smile. Learning of Iduna and Agnarr and being a fan of the Frozen films, it was a joy to see how Iduna and Agnarr's influences rubbed off on their daughters. I think this is a great book for any Frozen fan. The book is targeted for middle grade to teen readers, though I still enjoyed it as a young adult. The book also switches perspectives between Iduna and Agnarr, though Iduna seems to be the more "true" narrator as the one with more of the answers to their questions, and I think the book would have been just as good if her perspective was the only one we saw.

I received an eARC courtesy of Disney Press & NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I was so immensely excited to read this book and went into it with somewhat lofty expectations. Thankfully they were met. It was refreshing to get to know the origin story of the events of the Frozen movies and some of the motivations behind all of the kept secrets (Iduna hiding her past from Agnarr & the parents asking Elsa to conceal her powers). This backstory does help explain what seems like horrible decisions at first glance.

Everything about this, from the "awww" moments to the obvious villains makes this quintessentially Disney. I expected nothing less.

One note I feel like needs to made; Reading this story does make their deaths infinitely more painful.

For Libraries: You undoubtedly have huge Disney fans in your community who will LOVE this. Do them a favor and buy it!

I wanted to love this book… but the dialogue was too modern, the conflict was too contrived, and the writing style just didn’t grab me.
