A Kiss for a Kiss by Helena Hunting

As with all Helena Hunting books, this one had a lot of heart. Deviating from other books, this one is not as funny, although it has light fun moments, which is a given with this group of hockey players and their awesome wives. It’s a surprise pregnancy trope and I loved that the parents are older than normal, in their forties. It has a little bit of angst, lots of steam, and lots of emotions.

We already know and love Ryan Kingston and Queenie Masterson. Ryan is the milk- loving goalie of the Seattle NFL hockey team, Queenie is the daughter of the team’s General Manager. This story is about their parents, Hanna and Jake. And the story starts right at Ryan and Queenie’s wedding day!

We get treated to Ryan and Queenie’s wedding, and it was everything that we could ever wish. Lots of emotion, lots of tears, lots of happiness, lots of friends rejoicing with you, and one mother crying because she couldn’t dance with her son. Hanna and Jake planned the engagement party and the wedding. This involved many months with lots of meetings, lots of phone calls; and what started as a great friendship turned into a fling. They both knew this fling had an end date, since Jake lives in Seattle and Hanna lives in Tennessee. And yet, you can tell there are real feelings between them and a lot of compatibility. Against their wishes, they part.

Fast forward two months, Hanna discovers she’s pregnant, the pregnancy is high risk due to her age and past history, and Jake is gobsmacked. Just when he was beginning to relish his newfound liberty from being a parent, he’s surprised with the news, and he didn’t take the news well. And from this moment on, we’re treated to a relation with a surprise pregnancy the way it should happen, with two mature adults, who communicate, compromise, and act with the purpose of the baby’s best welfare.

I loved everything about this book! All the support from friends, all the ribbing Jake got from his players, the dealing with medical issues, Ryan’s issues about Hanna being a real mother to a new baby like she wasn’t with him, and Queenie’s euphoria over a new baby brother. I loved the different scenarios of everyone’s reaction to the news, and the devotion that Jake always shows to his daughter and Hanna, once he got over the shock and apologized for his initial reaction.

Reading this book was an absolute delight, and I loved visiting with old friends Alex and Violet and the rest of the gang, the girls chat group, loved seeing Lavender and Cody as little kids.

There was a weirdness resulting from the convoluted family ties arising from Hanna’s and Jake’s union, and that made this story so intriguing. It shows that no matter how strange the connection is, love triumphs over any and all weirdness. Imagine, this little baby will be Queenie’s and Ryan’s half-sibling and sibling in law. Also, this will make Hanna and Jake step parent and parent in law of both. And let’s not talk about Jake being Ryan’s boss, father in law and step father. The mind boggles but everyone had the best attitude, there was love all around and it was such a heartfelt romance. It’s definitely one of my favorites of 2021!

I have made it no secret how much I love this series. When [b:A Secret for a Secret|49091311|A Secret for a Secret (All In, #3)|Helena Hunting|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1576772372l/49091311._SY75_.jpg|74527318] was released, I immediately wanted to know what would happen with Hanna and Jake. Helena promised that we'd get a short story about them... then she said it turned into a book and I've been waiting forever! LOL. After reading ASFAS, King was declared my Book Husband, I loved him so much... but now? Sorry King, Jake is my new Book Husband. Hope you don't mind. Our main characters are over 40 and have both spent their youth raising their children (even if one of them didn't get to carry the title). Now that their kids are married, they can start having fun, right? With each other, maybe? I devoured this book and adored every minute - I probably spent the last quarter of the book in tears, both happy and sad, and when each problem arose and the couple communicated? I was so damn happy. Yes, we got drama, but we've got intelligent people handling it well. Love, love, love!

Including CWs, as they might be a surprise to some. CW: discussion of previous miscarriage; talk of pregnancy complications in a woman over 40

This one was a bit heavier in this series. Hanna is Ryan's momster. They're going through a touch time in their relationship so when queenie asks her to be part of their wedding party, she's all for it. While traveling from Tennessee to Seattle every few weeks, she develops a friendship with queenie's dad Jake. They have always had a strong attraction to each other since they met so they decide to have a little fun until the wedding is done. However, a bomb is dropped between them and it changes their life. They have a lot of decisions to make. I liked how mature they were and even when feelings and tensions were high, they noticed they needed to take a breather. Great ending to this series. I'm excited to read about the kids.

Ahh Jake! Daddy! I didn't realize I needed a "coach" story until All In. Jake and Momster are the absolute best thing to happen to this series.

Helenas ability to pour all these emotions onto the page and make you fall in love all over again is amazing.

It was great to see all the All In characters again and was a perfect ending to the series!

I love getting the chance to fall in love with all of these characters that have been such important characters in my life the last few years. They feel like my friends.

This book could have been a disaster with the way that this family tree was but it wasn't. I loved how the author handled the fear and joy with care and love. I did miss some of the humor that I've come to love from this author but the book was still good.
