Another book from the Darkland series!!

Scent of Danger is book 3 and focuses around the dangerous yet lovable character that is Mathian the Mad. (Although never called him Mad to his face - its a touchy subject)

The premise is thus: Andrea is a girl with no family except her dear old granny who lives in Alaska. After being forced into a holiday (by Grandma) to visit Grandma, Andrea finds herself in a bit of potential danger when not only does Mathian take an interest in her but she turns out to be a Charmer and is spotted by members of a Cult who kill Charmers. Suddenly and completely unaware, Andrea finds herself being dragged off to the Darklands...and shes not impressed!

I found Andreas character very hard to swallow - she clearly has a stick up her arse and cant see past the end of her nose nor trusts anything anyone says. Its kinda irritating. Until about halfway through where the whole story does a full 180 and gets INTERESTING!

Also, within Scent of Danger we learn loads more about the Darklands world and how it is that humans are able to survive there. We meet lots of the previous characters and some new faces which I hope will reappear later in the series !

Overall, this book was tedious at times and I couldn’t really stand Andrea but it was an enjoyable read regardless!

Editing went to crap in this one. Simple, basic stuff.

I always seem to want to choose a half star. My feeling for this book were between "Liked" and "Really Liked". I almost feel like it's false advertising for me to give the full 4 stars. Sigh, it is what it is I guess.

Let me first say I really enjoyed the first book of this series, The Charmer. I felt like Autumn Dawn let us get to know the characters so we could care about them. Mathin was one of my favorite characters in that book and I found myself wanting to know more about him. So I was delighted when I saw this book was about him. Unfortunately, I was left with wanting more this time. I liked Mathin in this book only because I already knew him from The Charmer. And I don't think I really got to know Andrea at all. I liked the theme and the actual plot (mostly anyway, more on that soon) but the story development was lacking for me. I loved that Raziel was more than a guard and had a voice this time around, but still don't know what makes him tick.

The only thing I was not happy with in the story was the Grandma/Matilda relationship. First you think they're close, then you're told they barely ever visited with each other, then you're told they are each others only relatives left. Not to say you can't have a close relationship by phone with your grandma, but if the poor girl lost both of her parents wouldn't her grandma have more to do with her life? It was confusing to me trying to figure out how close they really were...or weren't.

The pros outweighed the cons so we end up with 4 stars, I think I may be more harsh if the next book lacks the depth of character again though.

This was a cute book. The writing is good, the story was interesting though a bit predictable.

I found the ending to be a bit slap-dash. A kidnapping was great but there were only a few pages of the kidnapper, didn't really get to know much about him.
