I was transported to a Martian desert town immediately with the author's brilliant descriptions. If you're a fan of the show Firefly, you'll appreciate the world-building and atmosphere of this novel. Highly recommend for any sci-fi lover. Not for folks seeking technical detail or unable to suspend disbelief.

What an incredible and haunting story. Set on an eerie and isolated Mars, we follow Annabelle Crisp as she tries to come to grips with her world. I love how the author used sci-fi to subtly mirror our species' existential issues. Unflinchingly bleak but not entirely without hope or humanism.

The Strange will appeal to fans of Westerns like True Grit and traditional sci-fi.

This is a phenomenal novel, full of exciting ideas, relatable adventure, and wonderful prose.

It's a short read, I finished it in just a few hour long sittings, but it's enjoyable all the through. Very few dull moments.

I only wish there were more. The world that Ballingrud imagines seems small at the start, but quickly grows. There are so many intriguing ideas that could be full novels all their own here, and I'd like to see them explored!
