This book was chaotic but I kinda liked it? I have very middling opinions on it. There were parts that made me laugh, lots that made me say “that would never/could never happen”, and some that just didn’t make sense. There are mysteries that seem pretty obvious but aren’t revealed in this first book. I’m sure it’s all planned to play out over multiple books since this is a series. I do already have the second book in my Kindle library and a library hold on the third, and I think I enjoyed it enough to continue the series.

Humor was spot on, but the action was rushed in some sections where it left unbelievable. Another cliffhanger to start another series... sigh.

I didn’t love the voice and style of writing. It just wasn’t what I was in the mood for. I don’t always love the fast-volley conversations and it seemed like that dialogue was always just throwing new information at me without finesse.

Cute book, but seemed a bit YA to me. If it was meant for that, I guess I'd go up a star. A bit too cutesy for me.

This book's balance of mystery and family drama was perfect, with a little steamy cherry on top ;)

Sunshine is a single mom to 14-year-old Auri, and the secondary mystery revolves around them. When Sunshine was in high school she was abducted and then "returned", but no one knows who the abducter was and she can't remember anything.

The story is split between Sunshine and Auri. Auri’s story revolves around her starting in a new school, a mystery around her dad, and yet another problem: the friend she made while visiting the town disappeard. Auri’s character is endearing and her relationship with her mom is great, I loved reading about their bond.

This was a fun and entertaining read that made me feel both happy about all the wholesome relationship and intrigued by the various mysteries and cliffhangers, and I'm excited to read the next installment.

Better the second time

I can’t think of anyone, off the top of my head, that does feisty, sarcastic, witty, amazing female leads as well as Darynda. I really loved this and as always I see me the second time I read something because the first time I probably read way to fast. I am so excited to finally get book 2. Darynda gave me Reyes so she has a loyal reader in me forced!
