The first half of this book was slow and boring. I felt like I was waiting for something - ANYTHING - to happen. Finally it picked up with the Thanksgiving scene and from there I was locked in to the rest. I liked it but did not love it. The only character I truly liked was Briar. And that is always a problem for me. I need to care about at least one main character to truly enjoy a book. There are big, big thoughts and topics covered here, but in an accessible way, which I enjoyed. I listened to the audio which is pretty good except for the voice the narrator did for the three year old, Briar, which was irritating as hell. The fact that Briar was still my favorite character despite the terrible characterization of the audio is saying something.
