Kind of like James Baldwin, but written for today’s world, of course. Nothing new in there but he does tell some moving stories and reminds us of how fucked up the world is. He talks about the violence against black bodies, the differences between raising a white child and a black child, talks about “the people who believe they are white."

did not expect to spend the day reading this but I’m grateful I did. every page is a revelation and then the next page is a revelation contrasting the prior revelation and each time you come across one as coates decides you’re ready to discover them, you somehow know: that was truth then and this is truth now

Yes, yes, and yes to everything that has already been written about this book. Required reading for all. Would not recommend Googling the internet's opinion on this one (lest you're feeling a little too proud of humanity today and would like some damning evidence to the contrary).

A really moving and captivating account of the authors experiences as a black man in America, and the very real fear he experiences for himself and his son. What was really exceptional was how listening to the audiobook was almost like listening to spoken word poetry. Amazing.

About a month ago, I tried to read this book after finishing an incredibly harrowing novel. I got about 20 pages in and could not stand it. My mind simply wasn't in the right place. Since I really wanted to read this, I picked it up and again finished it in a matter of hours.
