A desperate young woman in Southern California sits down to write a letter to a man she’s never met—a choice that will forever change both their lives. My heart goes out to you, David. Even though I do not know you.

The correspondence between Carrie Allsop and David Mayer reveals, piece by piece, the painful details of a devastating affair between their spouses. With each commiserating scratch of the pen, they confess their fears and bare their souls. They share the bewilderment over how things went so wrong and come to wonder where to go from here.

Taylor Jenkins Reid is an author I've committed to reading their entire backlist, which includes this short novella on Kindle Unlimited. I didn't know anything about it before starting and I think that really had a positive influence on my experience.

TJR has such a unique ability to create distinct characters with unique stories. She manages to bring her characters to life in so few pages. Unlike a full length novel, here I really didn't get the full sense of who Carrie and David were. Although very short, it does cover a lot of ground and sparked a variety of emotions.

I loved the epistolary style in which TJR delivered this story. I think it worked fantastically. I know a lot of people were not a fan of the ending, but I loved it. It left me satisfied and reflecting on the liberating events that can change the trajectory of a life.

Evidence of the Affair solidifies that I will read anything TJR writes. A quick read, it's a snapshot of one marriage that packs a punch. I also adore how TJR connects were books with small little things.

I’ve been meaning to read this one forever and I’m so glad I kicked off November with it! TJR really is a master—just when I thought I knew exactly what was coming, she still managed to surprise me. I found myself engaged the whole way through and really loved these characters—pretty much a perfect historical/lit fic novella.
