Is it really my first book of 2023 when I read 80% of it during the last week of 2022? Eh, I'll go with it.
It is a reach for this to be branded as a horror book. A thriller? Yes! But how is something a creature feature when the creature is hardly...featured? You could cut out all the parts with the monster in it and still have a coherent thriller. And I think there was a huge missed opportunity to go into the lore of the creature, making it the horror that it desperately wanted to be

This book was so good! I couldn’t put it down and finished it in a day! The last book I finished this quickly was Verity by Colleen Hoover. I read Alice by Christina Henry and it was okay. I actually didn’t realize this was the same author until halfway through this book. I am very surprised and impressed compared to Alice. This book gave me the eerry unseen creature of a Stephen king or Dean Koontz novel with the thrill and suspense of Gillian Flynn. Loved it.

Probably more accurately a 3.5 but I gave it extra because I read it in a day because I wanted to see what happened - totally hooked me and I wanted to keep going to see where the main character ended up
That being said, I’m a little disappointed with the ending. Love the monsters (both human and creature) and even enjoyed some of the more horrifying descriptions, but I have questions. Lots of questions.
I think I would definitely read this author again - I just would like a bit more supernatural explanation perhaps? Or like more of an ending?

A creature feature where man is once again the scariest monster. Near the Bone starts off as a slow, domestic thriller of sorts, and then goes absolutely off the hinges. There's mystery and a beastie and of course, the real villain of it all, a man named William.
I could not put this one down! It was brutal in every sense of the word!

This is a great book to read if you're craving cold weather and the general isolation of winter. It mixes a few different elements of horror in compelling ways and makes it a real page turner. Much is left to the imagination, but sometimes that kind of subtlety is exactly what I'm looking for in spooky read and this one really hit the spot.

Oooof this was a page turner. Burned through it in two sittings, roughly 3 hours total.
It's creepy, it's heartbreaking, it's gory and violent. At times it's almost too much.
