This book kicks right off, wasting no time grabbing you and pulling you straight into the life of Mattie. It's definitely tense, and I'd honestly put it more into a thriller category vs 'horror' as is used in the description, but nonetheless it is good!

Wish there was a tad bit more explanation of what the creature looked liked (maybe that's why I wasn't as terrified of it, it's description was a little lacking-besides the claws lmao.)

I think this book had a lot of potential that was not fully realized due to its split focus between the main relationship and the secondary storyline (Trying to avoid spoilers). Its strength lies in the relationship between "Martha" and William but the addition of the creature just seems like unnecessary tension that refuses to let the book stay grounded (Where the narrative shines the most). Overall a little above average but I think it had a lot of unrealized potential.

Decent read. You can feel the atmosphere and creepiness that has been written in this story. It's a very fast read, making you feel on the edge of your seat with all that chasing scenes, and you can easily finish this book in one sitting. I wish we could get a little more insight about the monster and where it came from.

Ugh, this is a tough one to give a rating. The main storyline is compelling and gripping albeit extremely hard to read in some places. Some bits just felt silly and out of place-
the 3 hikers calling themselves cryptozoologists and William being a heroin dealer? Cmon.
The inner monologue was written cleverly and the overall pacing of the story  was excellent, but the (what I feel are) heavy-handed ‘modern’ details and unnecessarily profuse descriptions of abuse turned me off from giving this a higher rating.
