Third in the Fast Track romantic racing series revolving around a group of stock car drivers.

My Take
It's greatest value is in its resolution of Suzanne and Ryder's relationship with which McCarthy has been teasing us for the past two stories. It's a satisfying resolution but no great tensions or dramas despite McCarthy's trying to create them.

Suzanne discovers that she really doesn't like the person she's turning into. Manipulating clients to do/choose the more expensive option just so she can make the money. Along the way, McCarthy encourages Suzanne and Ryder to look within themselves for the reasons their marriage didn't work.

I think Tuesday Talladega is going to turn out to be Nikki.

The Story
With her maintenance coming to an end, Suzanne needs an income and she thinks she's found it in returning to her roots in wedding planning. The problem is Nikki, one of those bridezillas...and "that girl is so dumb, if she threw herself on the ground she'd miss". Nikki is an unappreciative, drain of a bride who can't make up her mind.

That's not the worst of it. It appears that Suzanne and Ryder may not actually be divorced. And with all the to-ing and fro-ing, Suzanne's pregnant. Just like the first time around when Suzanne was sure that Ryder only married her because they had to.

The Characters

Suzanne Jefferson has been divorced from Ryder for two years now. She still loves him but she can't live with him. Ryder Jefferson still doesn't understand why Suzanne walked out. He still wants her. He still wants to be married to her.

Nikki is marrying Joshua Strickland, one of the up-and-coming stock car drivers. Unfortunately for Josh, Nikki mostly wants the prestige and the money a driver represents.

Elec Morgan and Tamara Briggs-Morgan with their kids, Peter and Hunter along with Ty and Imogene and Evan Morgan play minor supporting roles.

The Cover and Title
The brilliantly red sunset in the cover is more of a hot start with a nicely muscled upper torso clad in worn bluejeans with a bit of his black knit boxers showing above the waistband. He leans back against the red hood of a car almost stroking it.

My interpretation of the title is the Hot Finish to Suzanne and Ryder's predicament.

After reading about Ryder and Suzanne in the last two books, I was looking forward to reading their story. Suzanne has been entertaining with her snark and wit so I was looking forward to the brave front she was going to portray in her happily-ever-after. Ryder has always been the nice guy but he does have a sexy streak in playing the field at times. Put these two together and I was looking for some fun and smexy action! Unfortunately, their book was not as entertaining and as romantic as the first two books. Don't get me wrong! There was sexy time and there was humor, but their romance just didn't click for me as the previous books have.

I think my main problem with this book is the character of Suzanne. Yes I love her smart mouth and the funny lines she comes up with, but I was clearly on Ryder's side of the fence in the romance. This woman does not know how to talk and work things out. She would rather run than talk about anything. She walked out on her marriage of two years instead of just talking to Ryder. They clearly still love each other and I give kudos to Ryder for attempting to try and work things out. He may not have been romantic in some of his actions, but you could tell he was serious and trying the best way he could. Whenever he did try to do something nice for Suzanne, she would twist it all around and make him look like a bad guy. I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy her character in the romance department. When it came to the fun dialogue though, Suzanne and Ryder are pros at getting a chuckle out of the reader.

While this wasn't my favorite book in the series, it still had its moments of enjoyment. What I love the most is how the author includes previous characters and weaves them into the current story. Usually in a series, previous characters are forgotten and the plot moves on. With the Fast Track series, they are such a big family of friends that they are included in the plot and remembered through out the story. I am anxious to start reading the next book and can't wait to see what the author has in store for the still eligible bachelors of the race track!

Better than the 2nd book. But it had the disadvantage of being filled with Suzanne who was always feeling sorry for herself and Nicki who was super annoying. It had its hot moments but still was a lot of meh moments.

It took McCarthy awhile to get to the third volume in the series, but it was worth the wait. This was the story of Suzanne and Ryder, who thought they were divorced. They have been in the series since the beginning and it was obvious that their story needed to be told.

Once again McCarthy followed the romance formula in her own successful way. I had a great time reading this book.

By the end I felt unsatisfied and harassed. Which was sad, because I was looking forward to this book. The story revolves around 2 people who fell out of a marriage and somehow manage to get it back. Yet they are constantly miscommunicating and bickering. It was all just so exhausting. Unfortunately, they are way too much like an average couple with big problems. Although, they do have some funny bantering before the hot sex-a-thon starts.

Suzanne's a guarded, tough gal with a uncontrollable barbed tongue. She spews harsh words for fear of being rejected first. It's a great character to start with, even one I can identify with, but she doesn't undergo growth. By the end, I'm not convinced she can hold onto her HEA.

Ryder's a simple guy. Too simple. His thoughts are, "Suze is hot. She's all I want. I love her. She is so gorgeous." There's a point where those sentiments start becoming boring. I kept feeling like we were getting the dumbed down version of what a woman believes goes on in a lovable jerk's head. Although, I did like Ryder a lot more than Suze. He put himself out there with words and feelings, and once he realized what he was doing wrong, actually set about rectifying it. Plus, he was often adorable when trying to win her over.

The level of conversation throughout is shallow. Then we get bland internal monologuing that pretty much always goes, "Why did I say that? I love him/her so much but I'm too afraid of being hurt so I'll just say mean things instead."

Suze and Ryder didn't identify things they liked about each other that felt genuine and non superficial. Although Suze did go on and on about how great Ryder is in bed.

Ugh, plus there was so much negative crap flying around, especially from the not so funny wedding plot.

Maybe I'll have more luck with another one of Erin's books, but this one just fell flat for me. :(

Suzanne Jefferson is a struggling wedding planner trying to catch a break, Ryder Jefferson is an up and coming stock car driver who is still in love with his ex wife, actually he is still in love with his wife. It turns out that the divorce papers that Suzanne and Ryder signed and dated never reached the court, so when they meet two years later they flabbergasted and secretly thrilled because it turns out that they still have that spark between them and it can no longer be resisted.
Suzanne’s current client is a typical bridezilla whose best man is none other than Ryder Jefferson. Instant chemistry ignites between the two, but the old battles still remain inside the two of them. The problem? Communication, or lack there of. Suzanne always thought her marriage happened because of the unplanned pregnancy and when she miscarried it was a good enough excuse to skedalle from her feelings, years later she is staying away because she is not Ryder’s equal in the money making department.
Ryder’s deal? Expressing his feelings. Typical man trouble. Every time he tries, Suzanne doesn’t want to hear it or something interrupts their time together. To complicate matters, there is a blog that is written it seems to Suzanne expressly exploiting Ryder’s hotel romps by the name of Tuesday Talladega. Cool name huh? And just like a scorned woman, Suzanne believes what she reads on paper and not what she reads in Ryder’s body language. Ryder has been in love with Suzanne since he laid eyes on her, how can he convince her that he still loves her and wants to stay married?
The third in McCarthy’s Fast Track series, Hot Finish is a sizzling must read. If not for the steamy sex scenes alone, then for Ryder’s sincerity. True, Suzanne did seem to take up most of the book with her trust issues and the plot wasn’t all that great, the characters were still interesting enough to keep me turning pages.

McCarthy’s next in the Fast Track series, “The Chase” comes out in March of 2011 with Evan Monroe’s story.

I enjoyed this book. Ryder and Suzanne were very volatile whenever they got together. They had remained friends after their divorce, but still had unresolved feelings for each other. When they discovered that they were still married, Ryder thought of it as a great opportunity to give their marriage a second chance. Unfortunately, while they were good together in bed, neither had learned how to actually communicate with the other. The whole book seemed to be about them wanting a life with the other, but not knowing how to get it. I was glad to see them work it out in the end. The secondary story of the wedding Suzanne was planning was pretty funny in places.
