The first book in the series was promising. However, as the series continued, I found the animal abuse/cruelty to be jarring and unnecessary. The same sentiments were felt about the length of each book, especially since it is marketed as middle grade. The length of each book reads like an early grade book. The overall plot was also underwhelming. I think there are much better middle grade and even early grade fantasy novels out there.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, and Child abuse
