My first delve into monster romance (apart from orc romances) and it was honestly really enjoyable. I liked Fern and Ahnou, it was a fated mates situation but I loved them together. Loved the confidence and support Ahnou gave to Fern and how much she appreciated him back.
There was an actual storyline alongside the romance as well, which I wasn't expecting. It was a touch predictable at times but I liked the level of drama and how it developed the characters further. Fern's mum was just an unnecessarily awful character, especially the more we found out and there was one little plot twist that I was like 'the fuck?' to but besides that it was good.
Also, a lot of smut.

Minor: Emotional abuse, Toxic relationship, and Death of parent

This is a sweet and relatively cozy monster romance. If you want instant attraction, a fast burn, omegaverse dynamics, then enjoy this one!
My main complaint was I felt the angst the two felt about their "fake dating" didn't make sense to me. I feel like they both obviously really liked each other and were compatible in so many ways. They just needed to talk to each other. Thankfully it didn't drag on for too long before someone talked sense to them.
Edited to add- I was already skeptical of this author's name using/abusing indigenous folklore, and after doing some research on her, I have decided to not read any more of her work. She has multiple pen names and has scammed other authors/readers in the community with false events and "charity" anthologies with no proof of donating funds.

The mother in this is very toxic and abusive to her daughter. She body shames her among other terrible verbal and financial treatment.shinyfox's review
