I didn't know much about Syria or the problems there beforehand. I thought this book would give me some information. Well, I don't think I learned anything from it! A completely useless book in this sense.
The story was mostly the thoughts of the characters or the descriptions of the dreams they had. Because the narrator is mentally unwell, it was sometimes difficult to know whether the events in the book were honestly described (or just a delusion). The timeline also goes back and forth.
I didn't like the characters or the atmosphere of the book, and I wasn't interested in how it ends.
Even though the characters traveled a long distance, it felt like nothing really happened. Honestly I thought the book was just boring. I endured it to the end because I have a challenge where I read a book about every country, and with this I crossed Syria off my list.

Not my type of book, but I can still recognize it is well-written.
