Women in war. Beautifully written. A character and subject you'll never forget.

It's hard for me to review this fairly since my middle kid (aka - The Boy) gave it to me for Christmas. He's 22. This is the first all by himself gift he's gotten me since the Christmas he got my earrings at the "holiday boutique" at school when he was 5. I love it for that reason first and foremost.
Part of the reason my son gave this to me is because he said it reminded him of how I write. He may or may not be correct about that. What he was absolutely correct about was that I would like this book. I would have liked it even had he not given it to me as a gift. It's a style of writing I like - the drifting in and out of past and present, the change of perception as events unfold.
The story itself was engaging. There was a balance between hope and despair. It might not have been an even balance, but it was balance none the less.
