I don’t even know where to start. This is not a good novel, especially not a good Stargate novel. Almost everything seemed off, as if the author only had limited knowledge of the franchise, seen maybe a few episodes. Granted, when the book was written the show was in the fourth season, so many things that happened later in the show were unknown, but that doesn’t excuse some of the crude mistakes.
First of all, the spelling and the use of some terms were wrong (zatnickatel instead of zat’nik’tel, Teal’C instead of Teal’c, Frasier instead of Fraiser… Fraiser was sometimes addressed with “Major” instead of “Doctor” which I don’t remember happening in the show), and one time the name of the actress was confused with the name of the character, resulting in “Amanda Carter”. All these things pulled me out of the story and seemed like careless writing.
Then were some of the facts simply wrong, Earth didn’t have a Stargate in Iceland, it was Antarctica. These are things that are easy to find out and that just seem like there wasn’t any research done.
The interactions between the characters were off as well sometimes. I got the feeling that the author shipped Jack/Janet, which is valid, in this case didn’t give anything to the story.
Also this novel seemed lowkey sexist when it came to the description of Sam and Janet, in a way the show didn’t portray them.
Lastly there were some weird shiftings of perspective, sometimes the perspective wasn’t clear or seemed to change several times on one page.
And for the story itself, the first half seemed a bit repetitive with all the dreams, and then they basically solved everything on the last 10 pages.

I wasn't diligent enough to spot the errors, and whilst I did enjoy the majority of the plot, I feel it was really let down by the abrupt ending. It is possible that the editor didn't like how many pages the author was tallying up, and just cut out the last chapter! It's really odd, literally a paragraph to wrap up!

The positive aspect of the book is that the overall plot was interesting. Problem is everything else was awful. Confusing the names of the actors with characters, mixing up physical attributes of characters, people behaving insanely out of character with terrible dialogue to boot. It's the book that turned me off from reading any of the Stargate books for years.
