In the first book, Storm and her best friend Liam - both members of the Thieves Guild - play a key role in building a peaceful relationship between the kingdom of Keutunan and the Elves. They are back in the sequel to help King Edward, newly on the throne, deal with some unexpected visitors who may not be all they seem to be at first glance.

When Pernulan ships land at the docks of Keutunan, the citizens are more than a little surprised. The people look different and speak a different language and they claim to be seeking an alliance in light of a coming war. But are they really all they seem to be? Or are more sinister truths lurking? Shadow, a member of the Thieves Guild, has found an unlikely ally in the person of Shade, the Guild Master of the Assassins Guild. Their alliance is one based mostly on a healthy respect of and need for the other person's skill in their craft. When the enemy of Keutunan attempts to infiltrate key places in the community, they assume that the Underworld Guilds are of no great consequence. And it is this assumption that will prove most dangerous in the end.

I loved everything about this book - the pace of the action, the characters and their interactions with one another, and all the unexpected little twists to the plot. Most of all, I love that Marion Blackwood has left a clear path to a third book in this series and I can't wait to see what happens next!
