Considering this purely as a memoir by a comedian would be an incredible disservice to Sara Pascoe. It is, and it's a good one, but it is also an impassioned, academically researched defense of the female body's function, inherent worth and right to be respected both by others and the consciousness inside it.

It was a little long or repetitive in places and my main reflection is that even though this book came out only 8 years ago and clearly does a lot of work to represent intersectionality the absence of several topics feels dated already. Which is mindblowing and something that I think Sara would actually be quite happy about considering her plea for updated education and continual learning throughout this book.

I was weirdly happy to Google her and find out she is no longer with the person she was with whilst writing this book - he sounded like a red flag even when she was trying to make it clear he wasn't.

To categorise this as a celebrity book is to do it a massive disservice: this is well written, hilarious and so wonderfully informative. Part scientific, part anecdotal, part philosophical part everything really, it takes you on a journey of what it is to be a modern woman living in the western world. I loved it!

Sara Pascoe is great but unfortunately I’m not enjoying this one. DNF at ~70%.
