After visiting the Mouse Mansion storefront in Amsterdam (it’s completely magical and should be at the top of your list of places to visit while in Amsterdam if you have children and/or love tiny things and/or have eyes), I tracked down an English-language copy of this book and was not disappointed. The stories are cute, my 4-year-old and I delighted in knowing more about Sam and Julia, and I can’t get enough of the pictures and trying to figure out how all the tiny props are made.

Didn't read the story at all. I just love the miniatures.

This is an absolutely adorable book. The author made a house and filled it with doll sized furniture and placed these knitted stuffed mice into it. Julia and Sam are best friends and have adventures all around this mouse mansion. It is so cute and the pictures are amazing. The stories are also great and kids and adults will love it.

Really cute! Great pictures! At the end, I wanted to see a picture of the whole mansion.

Popularity/appeal rating: 4 (a bit text-heavy for a picture book, but the illustrations are so captivating!)

Quality rating: 5

In a one-sentence nutshell:
A heartwarming friendship story accompanies photographs of mice going about their daily lives in an incredibly detailed (and cozy-looking) dollhouse. I want to live in the Mouse Mansion.

Three stars only because the illustrations are so incredibly charming. The text is disjointed, lackluster, and disappointing.
