This was an interesting read but I'm a bit conflicted. On one hand I enjoyed the sheer amount of 'facts' included. They were snappy snippets of folklore linked by a common theme so it wasn't too long winded.

At the same time, it felt a bit suffocating. I was suffocating in folklore facts. I went from one statement to another about slightly different folklore and regions or religions etc. No let up. Maybe because I'm not used to reading these sorts of non-fiction books anymore.

A very interesting delve into folklore, how it might develop, and some of the potential real causes for common myths and superstitions. Easy to understand and a good read, I would recommend to someone interested in folklore.

Good as a casual read or a coffee table book. Frustratingly, the book is ultimately just a list of rapid-fire facts that are isolated from any context or further exploration. Every sentence is a different fact with nothing to link one sentence to the next, quickly switching between locations, time periods and topics.

Just felt like it was listing facts rather than giving any interesting information or linking them together

A high level, but interesting, look at British folklore.

This book is so interesting! Especially seeing how modern traditions have been influenced by the ones that have come before.

Sometimes it felt more like reading a list of different folklore beliefs where some were more explores than others.

However, there are so many places I want to visit now to see and experience the folklore for myself.

Definite must read for any folklore enthusiast!
