WHY I PICKED IT UP
Because Ryan North!
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT
First of all, Ryan does a better job reading that 98% of authors who read their own works. Consistent voice, volume, and inflection throughout. Good job, Ryan!
Secondly, this is maybe the first and only book I've read in this genre that I'm calling "Science Comedy." The conceit of "science primer for would-be super villains" is funny, but it is also a vehicle for some really neat and interesting geological, biological, and astrological science. Good stuff.
WHO I'D RECOMMEND IT TO
Humans of all ages. It is some Grade A villainous science fun.

Definitely more science-based than I expected, though a little bit of “politics” gets talked about. It’s a fun concept and it kept me engaged for most of the book, although it started to drag a little bit towards the end. I learned some cool stuff.

I really enjoyed the first 3/4 of the book, but it slowed down for me towards the end. All in all, it was funny and enjoyable and I learned a few things.

3.5 Rounded up- I mostly enjoyed this (as much as I tend to enjoy popular science books) and the premise is fun but that last chapter was So Hard for me to get through. I don't know why but I read the first 75% of the book in less than a day and it took me about a week to get through the last bit. I do plan to read the author's other book, How to Invent Everything so that when I rule the world I can put a lot of funds into time travel and then not be trapped in the past with nothing to do.

Entertaining for a while, then got repetitive around “drill to the center of the earth”. The science is interesting, but would probably be better as a children’s book or a podcast.
