Hux has been fighting for years to gain custody of his daughter. Every single time he loses. When his lawyer jokes that he should get married, Everly overhears and volunteers.

Hux came off as kind of an ass. He treated Everly like she was disposable.  He her treats her with so much distrust and discounts all of her feelings. We see little glimpses of the good man he could be, like how he fights for his daughter or when he carried Everly upstairs. He "doesn't do relationships" because his ex was a bitch, but Everly sacrificed so much to help him and this is how he treats her.

Their relationship is all based on forced proximity and their physical relationship. Where is the romance? Where is him begging for forgiveness? Their relationship was very surface level.

I really liked Everly. She was lost in her life and she felt like marrying Hux would redeem her for her "mistakes". Really, she was a kind, compassionate, empathetic, and loyal woman who wanted to do nothing more than help him. I felt awful for her.

Let's not forget what happened when she showed him proof that his bestie was
stealing from him. Yes, I get that you wouldn't want to believe it, but she had all the proof laid out for him!

Tropes: single parent, marriage of convenience, forced proximity, small town, grumpy/sunshine, friends with benefits
