I thought it was sweet and nice to see some of the other characters stories, although in no way integral to the series.

This whole book is so adorable! I shipped Myles and Shelby throughout all the later books. They are so adorable! Rolland and Arriene’s stories were super sad though. The Daniel and Lucinda story was cute.

So here's the thing. I'm not actually done with this book yet (as of now, only finished with Miles and Shelby's story), but I feel really compelled to write a review after reading a few others that seem to share my feelings about the series.
I loved Fallen, and although I was more aware of its faults the second time around, the book just appeals to me. Simple as that. I'm not even so sure why, but it does.
Torment was a good one star less enjoyable in my opinion, but still not bad. Then again, I'm the kind of person who falls in love with a band's debut album and freaks when their sophomore release doesn't sound exactly the same, so I could just be playing favorites. Either way, I liked it but wasn't as thrilled as I was with its predecessor. I was hoping to be a lot more informed than I was at the end of Fallen, but instead only wound up a lot more confused.
Then came Passion, and... oh, boy, was that a joy to slog through. I felt like the book was just filler, as if Kate decided 3 full-lengths and 1 novel in stories wasn't enough room to flesh out the still-shallow and, quite frankly, annoyingly underdeveloped relationship between Luce and Daniel. So she threw in thousands of years of fluff, which did nothing for my understanding of their relationship past what I already knew from the first novel: that Luce dies every time she comes close to understanding the truth about Daniel, or something to that effect. Honestly, I thought the trip-down-memory-lane idea was cool at the beginning of the book--until I got about halfway through, skimmed through the rest in disbelief, and realized that formula was going to span the ENTIRE novel.
That, and the whole Bill thing just seemed way too contrived. Too cartoony. I kept picturing a stone version of Phil from the Disney reenactment of Hercules, voice and all.
Now, with Fallen in Love, I'm only one story through and already can't wait to move on to Rapture, just to be done with it. I get that it's not crucial to the story, and I can skip it if I please, but I want to read the series in its entirety... despite its continual effort at disappointing me. So I'll finish this up, and then edit this review to put in my last two cents.
All I can say, though, is that I'm simultaneously reading Fifty Shades Freed and find myself actually feeling more excited to read that book than this one. Which, my dears, is saying a pretty good deal.

The story of Tess and Arriane was ALMOST enough to tack on a star.. but then it went on to the couple I was HOPING to avoid for just one book, Luce and Daniel. Not to mention Shelby & Miles's awkward and out-of-the-blue romance and Roland's saddeningly trite love story preceding the more enjoyable one of the two girls. It looks like I'm onto rapture, since there's no point in stopping this far in, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not the least bit happy to put this series to rest.

I knew i loved Arriane but her chapters in this just confirmed it!!! …i liked how it was little bits for each couple/character, was fun to hear about different people during times we had already seen with Luce and Daniel.

This was one of those books that you read because it's part of the [b:Fallen|6487308|Fallen (Fallen, #1)|Lauren Kate|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1440619649s/6487308.jpg|6678670] series. That's why I read it, because it was a few short stories that happen before the events of the next book.
But, honestly, I felt like I could have skipped it. I'm glad I didn't though cause the stories were good.
Miles and Shelby was cute and all.
We got to learn a bit more about Roland, a character I didn't really think I needed a backstory from but I'm glad I got it.
Arriane's story was probably the only story I did need to read. I mean to finally know how she got the scar. It was a heart breaking story but it makes me like Arriane even more.
Lucinda and Daniels story was honestly pointless. They only ever spent one Valentine's Day together, but the glimpses of her past life in [b:Passion|9369720|Passion (Fallen, #3)|Lauren Kate|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1362339802s/9369720.jpg|10958266] were more romantic than this.
