This is a story that needs to be experienced a few times... there is a depth to the mere horror/thriller elements that makes it uncomfortable, and it is that depth that makes this story so damn good!

I am choosing a rating in the middle because I am torn. I liked the writing and story but think I got lost or something went way over my head. The ending was also somewhat abrupt.

I already love any work by Scott Heim, and it just kills me that he has yet to release another novel. His writing is so good, and his stories just dig right into the characters. Even for this very short story, I was in it from the get-go. I wanted to just keep going, insatiable.

Loam told a quick, dark tale that left a kind of haunting feeling when it was finished. Kudos to Scott Heim for this creepy little piece.

I think I was just unsatisfied by this story. I think it deserved a fuller story to really do it justice. Not sure if I’m articulating this properly. I think if this was a full lent book it could have been a 4 or 5 star read but when it ended I felt deep dissatisfaction with it. Sometime that’s a good thing but not this time. I’ve been bouncing between 2 and 3 stars because I think it’s solidly 2.5. I’ll sleep on it and decide tomorrow morning afte I’ve given it some thought.

This was so fucking creepy. The mass hysteria combined with the leading questions in the police interviews made it incredibly uncomfortable to read in the way that only really good horror can. Reading this made me crave more horror set during the Satanic Panic, and while the ending did feel a little vaguer than I would have liked - I’m a big fan of a solid conclusion - it wasn’t a bad ending by any means and fit the openendedness that a lot of these Amazon Originals have in common.
