"The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet" is the eleventh story in the [b:The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes|3590|The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes|Arthur Conan Doyle|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1164045516s/3590.jpg|1222101] story collection, the third publication in the Sherlock Holmes series (after the first two novels, so the first story collection).

Holmes consults with a man who was keeping the famous and priceless Beryl Coronet as collateral for a loan of money, only to wake up in the night to discover his son - a gambler - holding the now twisted coronet, with three jewels missing.

Probably my least favourite story from [b:The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes|3590|The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes|Arthur Conan Doyle|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1164045516s/3590.jpg|1222101], but really that just tells you the calibre of the stories in this collection.

i felt like after reading quite a few holmes stories, this one fell a bit short. there was nothing to really set it apart from the others. a decent read though.

What at first seemed like a simple case turned out to be a complex one. I have to admit that, although I did not have all the details figured out, I was expecting the ending. Nonetheless, I still found the story interesting. It always seems so simple when Sherlock Holmes explains the process he went through to figure things out, but he has once again proven how competent he is at his job.

I now know what a beryl is.

Holmes bugs me a bit because there are very few clues laid, so the reader has no possibility of figuring out what happened. But, for listening to while I'm working around the house, it isn't bad.

Adventures of Sherlock Holmes was a fun ride full of interesting mysteries that I mostly solved with easy but still story by story this eccentric detective grew on me and I found myself truly enjoying a book after a long reading slump that was on and off during the whole year.
