The relationship was really cute but I can't really believe an "I've been in love with you for 12 years" story when they're in their thirties – what are you, pre-schoolers?? My ADHD sadly could not compute with the slow pace and I skimmed the last 100 pages.

I wanted like to understand the hype around this book, and I was eager to pick it up. Now, I'm just beginning to think that the hype may be because this story feels like a holiday special – and that is a bandwagon I wouldn't have cared if I missed. I'm a little grinchy like that: I don't want to live in holiday cheer, just get small dozes of it.

I've always loved Christmas and everything that comes with it. It's the only time of the year where everything feels like magic. Hopeful, earnest, and kind. The whole world slows down and ... believes for once.

The pace of the story feels very slow. The narration is often interrupted by vivid descriptions to create whimsical coziness or a longing for it, and the dialoque takes ages because the main character / first person narrator Stella often lingers in her own thoughts and memories: before she replies to a simple line, she must think of something else for a page or two. This habit underlines her overthinking and very self-conscious nature. I think that the love interest Luka would have made for a more streamlined ot decicive narrator, and having his pov chapters sprinkled throughout the book (
instead of just at the ending
) would have made me like the story more.

Stella is also very averse to any changes, because she seeks comfort in familiarity. She's afraid she'll lose people who are important to her if there are any big changes in their surrounding lives or their interpersonal relationship dynamics. This causes the romance in the book to be very slow burn, heavy on rumination and pining. Stella is a frustrating character in all her overthinking and stubborness with not giving change a chance.

Combine Stella's overthinking tendencies with her craving for a perfectly whimsical holiday spirit (created by consumerism and American dreams of certain exteriors), the vibe the book sets doesn't feel very inviting to me. I'd like to see something that feels more mundane, and as that, more real. I don't need a holiday special, I want something that works year-round. Maybe a book about a Christmas tree farm is not a great pick for something like that. 😅 But still, I don't want to linger in those whimsical ideas, I'd just like to see where the fake dating goes and how the interpersonal relationships shift.

If I hadn't bought this book, it would have been a DNF. I've heard the series gets better with every book, though, so I'll probably give the next one a try (it's not a Christmas book, at the very least!). The next book will take a look on Beckett the farmer and Evelyn the social media influencer. Beckett seems like an interesting slightly hermit-like character I wouldn't mind spending more time with.

Predictable and far too spicy for me to really enjoy it.

Cute but the 3rd act drama was annoying and I didn't like the narrators attempt at male voices.

This story was a cute, light hearted read. It wasn’t your typical best friends/ fake dating story -
there was no fight, disagreement, breakup or walk away throughout the entire novel

Luka and Stella have been best friends for 10 years but
secretly pining after one another - everyone in town can see it but Stella can’t. Luka, for his part, seems to know but is content to go slow because of Stella’s fear of losing everyone she’s ever loved.

It’s like a Hallmark movie with a little bit of steam.

If you’re looking for a cute, lighthearted fairly fast read, check out this story.

A cute Christmas read that I found was the perfect length. It wasn’t overly cheesy either which I appreciate.

I also don’t think it made sense for them to drop out of the competition for something as small as a fake relationship? I mean I understand the rules or whatever, but that part was kind of dumb.

This was cute. I liked the elements of found family and friendship. Beckett was my favorite character with Layla and Luka tied for second. I liked the friendship between Beckett, Layla and Stella. Overall, this was cute holiday book.

I love this author but with that said I thought Luca lacked depth at time but I think that is also on me because I mostly read dual pov

This was so disappointing. I’m so bummed! I do still kinda wanna read Beckett-the-cat-dad’s story…so maybe I can find a used copy or something.

I found myself having to re-read sentences a lot. Locations would change or the phrasing would be hard to follow. Then I kept losing interest.

Basically, the competition that the book is centered around doesn’t actually start until the last 100 pages and…gets brushed past? We aren’t told what the competition actually is about or how people win? It’s just skimmed past.

The farm needs to win or the business will absolutely go under! Except, oh wait, never mind the finances can be easily fixed with a spreadsheet?

The B Plot about someone sabotaging the farm hooked me. Then it just…randomly resolved itself?
