Overall okay, I like the characters though it jumps between too many perspectives for my taste and doesn't feel like there's one MC. The plot is decent and though it's a big book I read it pretty quickly. It hits you with a ton of worldbuilding information dumps right off the bat so the beginning is slow. There are also way too many kingdom's and towns (both human and elder) and not to mention other realms to keep straight, they are probably super unnecessary.

Can’t wait for the second one!!!
Awesome action scenes
Fantastic and diverse characters
Took a few chapters for me to fully grasp the world and what was happening, but then I couldn’t put it down. Well done Victoria!

Probably would have given it four stars if I had been in a better head space for reading. I do love Victoria Aveyard though and am looking forward to book #2 in this series. Now to catch up on my reading challenge... only one book behind.

Aveyard has done it again. Blown me away.

This book has everything. Fantasy. Adventure. Betrayals. Assasins. Pirates. Magic. Quests.

Aveyard is a Master of building worlds. She brings so much detail to life and it immerses and captivates you.

Strong characters with layers that make you wonder which side they will end up on, or how long they will stay there.

Absolutely fantastic book and I cannot wait for the next installment.
