Favorites:

Bullet Point by Elizabeth Bear – I would love a whole survivalist series like this story.

The Eight People Who Murdered Me (Excerpt From Lucy Westenra’s Diary) by Gwendolyn Kiste – good twist on the old story, would love to follow the protagonist's future adventures

Shape-Ups At Delilah’s by Rion Amilcar Scott – this one was both uncomfortable and funny. Light musings over society's demands, expectations, and restrictions.

Canst Thou Draw Out The Leviathan by Christopher Caldwell – I enjoyed the subversion of the tropes. Had to blink away tears on more than one occasion.

Thoughts And Prayers by Ken Liu – the reason I quit most of social media.

The Time Invariance Of Snow by E. Lily Yu – I cannot even articulate what the story is about, and I don't want to try for fear of loosing all the feels.

Erase, Erase, Erase by Elizabeth Bear – Victim-hood and self hate. Self erasure via rewriting history.

Up From Slavery by Victor Lavalle – I would read the whole series. Taking back the power from the masters, the eldritch abominations.

I read the 2021 one for a book challenge and then got this one from the library on a whim after seeing the author list, and now I think I'm gonna read this whole series which thankfully only started in the 2010s.

3.5 stars. The writing was good, and I loved the introduction by Diana Gabaldon but I just didn't connect with any of the stories. Good but nothing memorable.

Overall this was a very good collection, and I'm thrilled that it was released as an audiobook.

I think [a:Diana Gabaldon|3617|Diana Gabaldon|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1213918339p2/3617.jpg] and I have very different tastes in short stories, though, because there are a few things included where I've read the collection they came from and didn't think they were the best in that collection. Not a complaint, just interesting.

Overall a fun read. I'm much more into science fiction than fantasy and started reading this without fully grasping the title and didn't realize it would be half fantasy, but I still enjoyed it. Some of the stories, specifically one with a certain aquatic creature, are "wtf?"-worthy, but the sci-fi is all tons of fun and I enjoyed most of the fantasy too.

"Bookstore at the End of America" and "The Time Invariance of Snow" were both five star works, I loved them. Otherwise, there were many stories (sci-fi especially) that felt repetitive of other included works. The stories themselves were well done.
