Needed to read this for a book challenge (category: Fairy Tale). I'm sure it's the proper cup of tea for many people, but not for me.

I watched the Studio Ghibli film of this before I discovered the book. I loved the film and jumped into the novel looking forward to something very similar. It is really quite different and at first I was disappointed. There is much more emphasis on Howl's womanising and some quite grotesque magic spells in the book. Parts of the plot do not occur in the film.

Once I had got over the fact it's very different and stopped thinking about the film, I started to enjoy this novel more. It is a wonderfully creative fantasy tale with a host of interesting characters. The way the plot comes together at the end is fast-moving and quite thrilling. And there's a happy ending, which I do like!

I think this might be my favorite fantasy book. I adore the Ghibli movie and this reads just as magical.
The writing feels like a fable, all the details tie perfectly at the end, it’s like a dream I never want to wake up from.

Lovely and magical. I expected no less of Jones. I loved how everything just made sense and tied up nicely in the end. I do wish I got more Howl and Sophie moments though!
