Make sure you read the trigger warnings! Honestly some parts were hard to read since they were so vivid but I’m so glad with the way it turned out. I wish the MC would’ve caught on to the manipulation early on but realistically you usually don’t so I get it. I loved the relationship between the MC and her cousin, it was so genuine and such a true friendship. Their childhood was rough but they had each other. So sad to see how obviously people with money and positions of power can get away with so much so that was horrible but such a good read!!!! If you want real, raw, & uncut I highly recommend

Literally loved this book.. Stayed up all night reading it and ended up only getting 4 hours of sleep but that’s ok. It’s pretty dark but written so well! Loved.

“Strength. Dignity. Courage. All these things belong to you. Take them back. Your soul is yours. Your heart is yours. Your body is yours. Yours to keep and yours to share.”

<SPOILER ⬇️>

This book touched me unlike any other. Kennedy Ryan is so brave to write this story, and I’m so grateful she did. I have never found something that better depicts how it feels to be in an abusive relationship.

“You can’t live your life in fear of him though.”
Sometimes it’s the fear that keeps you alive, Lo. I learned a lot from this experience. I learned that people are really cavalier with other people’s lives.”

“What do you mean?”

“They tell women to ‘just leave’, and they say ‘you’re so weak to stay.’” My words tumble out of me faster than I can process. “Yes, there are women who stay too long. Yes, there are women who accept abuse, confused that somehow it’s still love. That’s wasn’t me, but I knew that if I tried to leave and failed, he would kill me.”

Lo stares at me in silence for a few moments. I can tell she things I’m being melodramatic, and I have to make her understand.

“Seventy percent of domestic abuse homicides occur when the woman tries to leave. That means that when a lot of these motherfuckers say ‘I’ll kill you if you leave me,’ they mean it.” A sob catches in my throat, but I shove it back down, determined to have my day with strong, unwavering voice. “Imagine I’d i’d left and he got partial custody of Sarai. That monster having my daughter on the weekends? Never.”

⬆️I wish everyone could read this, and understand how it feels. There’s NOTHING scarier than knowing the partner you choose for your children could hurt them without a thought.

Thank you Kennedy ❤️

”Whatever you are thinking about. Stop. Be right here. Right now. With me.”

I cried so much reading this. The agony I felt during some scenes..
i can’t believe that there truly are people like this around us and we probably will never know what happens behind closed doors since they portray themselves as saints. I think it instilled again why women need their own things and should never depend on a man too much.
This was bittersweet. The journey for the ending was truly heartbreaking.
