Kaden ist einfach soo toxisch, mysogyn und übergriffig. Sehr unsexy.

Aber es war unterhaltsam und Mona Kasten hat einen schönen Schreibstil.

I read this book for a friend and decided on two stars because of it's problematic elements.

The love interest is a "Bad Boy" who is extremely toxic not only to the main character but to his close friends too.
The relationship of the main ship is problematic as they have no boundaries from the very start.

Kaden repeatedly invades her privacy (two times) and insults her (through out all the book).
Took the liberties to slap her ass when she was intoxicated. Their conversations are poor. Whenever he asks Allie a question, it is a demand, but when Allie requires for him to answer her he simply refuses. Instead of taking accountability, the author romanticizes it.

Chapter 23 trigger warnings for mention of past sexual child abuse Allia faced (not r'ed). If it triggers you, you can skip to the next page the moment you see Anderson's name.

The author once again mentions the abuse Allia faced fron Anderson and her mother in a romanticized way, saying that Allia wouldn't have found new friends and love if not what happened because of her abusers.

The friendship between Kaden and his friends is also toxic and romanticized.
After Kaden punches Spencer
, Spencer is described as such a great friend to let himself be punched in the face by
Kaden
.

Finally, the writing style is easy and accessible, but cringey.

I would love to say that I did not like this book. There are more than a few problematic scenes concerning respecting boundaries/consent. I felt very uncomfortable during these scenes, especially as the book was written in 2016 and the author should know better.

But I have to shamefully admit that Begin Again had me hooked. I could hardly pause the audiobook and was fully invested in the (unhealthy) relationship between Allie and Kaden. Was the story unique? Nope. Was it still fun? Yes!

Though I am disappointed that a German author would not choose Germany as the setting. I think there are more than enough books set at US colleges.

But I can't stay long as I am already hooked on the second book in the series!
