I never know how to rate novellas/ short stories but this was very engaging considering how short it was. I love Lyre so much for standing up for Piper.

Ok for a novella. I didn't feel like I got much out of it that wasn't in the other books, but I do like hearing more about Lyre.

This quick leads directly from last with Lyre and Seiya go through the void but as they make it back to earth there captured by Ras family and held prisoner.
I have to say I don't like Seiya and especially now with her leaving Lyre. Let's see if she can redeem herself but for me it'll take a lot.

This was a fun short. I didn’t know what to expect since this is the first story in the series not told from Piper’s POV, and we’re in a weird place with Seiya right now. But I liked it.

We left off in Yield the Night with Seiya and Lyre split off from Piper and Ash. We find out in this short that Seiya and Lyre are being kept in the Ra embassy and what they go through trying to escape.

This is also the first time we see more hints into Lyre’s past and backstory that really sets up his Spell Weaver prequel series. And I’m really looking forward to seeing how all that will come into play.

Trigger warnings for kidnapping and violence.

I was not a fan of Seiya before this book. While I do not like her still, after reading this novella I understand her actions better.
If you are reading the series, my recommendation is to not skip this story, because it gives us good insight and backstory for Seiya and Lyre.

It's nice to get a glimpse of Seiya and the reason behind her hatred towards Piper. I also like the additional information that we get on Lyre, too. He's such an adorable, likeable character, just a bit eclipsed by Ash and his broody-but-sexy self.
