Definitely not my favorite mystery, but certainly a smart story in its way. I don't think the point was to question the sequence of events, but more to question who we thought was in the wrong, and also to question what it was that brought them to that path. While that's somewhat typical of Poirot tales, I felt that it was pretty heavy handed, and also that the actual plot was a little underwhelming, which put it off my taste relative to other mysteries. The motivations were petty, and the crimes were each wholly un-shocking. A fun read? Yes! A good drama? Sure! But one that, uncharacteristically, I was looking forward to finishing just to have seen it through.

I know it's a product of its time, but the casual racism was really off-putting. I didn't even make it to the "death" part, though I think I was close.

Possibly my favorite Christie mystery to date. The buildup to even the murder-which happens quite far into the book- in this one is fantastic, and the cast of characters is well fleshed-out. The secondary characters are also very likable, and the twists and turns, combined with the building suspense, made for a truly fantastic read.
