This would be a great read to kick off a writing fiction unit.

Very cute, but I'm not sure what to do with it. Picture books or J 813?

really well done, a story about writing stories. lovely illustrations. seems like an difficult read aloud with all the side notes though, and hard for early readers themselves with the cursive, etc

I really wanted to like this story more than I did. It's a story within a story about writing a story. It just got a little confusing to read for me. I loved the illustrations and the ideas though. I don't think it would work well for a read aloud, but could see adding it to a classroom library for independent reading.

This is a truly magical book teaching folks on how to write, how to create, and what to do along the process in the most cleverest of ways!!

Not only are these some of the best illustrations I've ever seen, the story is an amazing blend of fiction and nonfiction. Encourage your kids' imaginations and dreams by letting them know that stories can be told by anyone and everyone!

I think I didn't appreciate this because I read it without any context about what it was. Not appropriate for young children - too much bouncing around between biography and storytelling.

I'm not sure how I feel about this as a picture book. It definitely wouldn't work for storytime or a class visit (too long, too involved). It might be better suited for a lap-read with an older kid. This might even be good for a first or second grader who is interested in how picture books are created.

For the most part I liked the book but sometimes it felt a little too busy.

Cute book in which an illustrator tackles some of the questions children have asked her during various school visits including, "Where does a story start?" A more honest rating would be 3.5 stars.
