this is just like. shock factor porn for edgy incels. i wanted it to be more because i’m so desensitised and want something that will make me recoil and uncomfortable, and while the subject matter itself is enough to do that the writing is just so.. cringey? (“so I figured I’d bite the bullet and just do it, Nike-style” LIKE CMON) and i hate that word. i don’t know. this could have been so fucked up and engaging but instead it was just fucked up and embarrassing. so many of the positive reviews for this book stem from ‘well it’s fucked up and appalling because that’s the point!’ yes we know, but that doesn’t mean we don’t also deserve good writing and an actual plot over just the same gore porn for however many pages. extreme horror can be good! this is unfortunately not an example of that.

The absolute grossest book I’ve ever read, but I couldn’t put it down. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a visceral reaction to reading anything…ever. I should really start reading about books before I read them.

I just… I dunno this was all kinds of messed up. I don’t have words but I couldn’t put it down. It was horrific but I was weirdly fascinated by it from a psychological stand point.

Feel gross rating this as high as I do (and question my sanity…) but if you’re seeking out the most messed up content you can get your paws on, it’s up there. The writing isn’t stellar but the plot is as brutal and gross as it gets & forever a scorch mark on my brain.

I'm shocked by how much i ended up liking this. it was intriguing as it was disgusting I couldn't put the book down and the way it's narrated in this almost comedic fashion is jarring yet compelling

This is the most messed up thing I have ever witnessed in my life. I don't even know how to put it into words. Somehow the author was able to deliver it in a way that was almost enchanting, I couldn't put it down.
