I’d heard a lot of great things about this book, so I ended up giving it a shot. Once you get past the edgelord bullshit, it reads like an ultraviolent satire on normalcy, addiction, and the futile desire to be “unique.” There’s only one particular section I… skipped… but I could feel it was probably coming and was on the lookout for it.  I only have a handful of “hard limits”, but this book managed to hit one or two of them.

Overall, trying to be as objective as possible, I think it was mediocre, edging on bad. Could do without  the Try-Hard edginess, but I think there actually *was* a decent, intriguing love story hidden inside the shock value. I would not recommend this book to any other living soul.

This is actually a very funny book, or at least I thought it was. Yes, it involves cannibalism and necrophilia (there isn't even a content-warning for necrophilia! Mods, we need one!) but it's also a tale of personal growth, stalking and brain-fucking . Having long attempted to become completely invisible and leave no mark whatsoever on the world, as well as execrating the conventional family which is nothing but a slow form of self-removal, I sympathise.

It's also very referential in the modern style and I do wonder if it isn't an Alternate-Universe version of "American Psycho," as in, Bateman wouldn't have made it as a businessman, he's more likely to have become a morgue attendant.

There's really nothing here we haven't seen in "Cows" or the works of Edward Lee (despite his avowed hatred of child abuse, dead baby abuse is not unknown in his works - and somehow Lee never gets called the 'dead baby guy,' the way Morrison does because of one character. In one novel). Well, ya know what they say. Disembowelment takes guts.

Somehow I’m more upset by the MC’s “I’m not like other girls” vibe, throwing fits when called normal or told he still unfortunately is a part of society than by his nefarious deeds.

The absolute grossest book I’ve ever read, but I couldn’t put it down. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a visceral reaction to reading anything…ever. I should really start reading about books before I read them.
