um yeah interesting! it was very obviously just what the author finds hot or whatever and it read like a goofy torture porn fanfic on wattpad. shock value for the sake of being shock value. i actually think i’ve read better written south park fanfiction!!

There was a lot of potential for character development but this book was written for (tasteless) shock value.  Repetitive scenes and a wannabe edgelord.

Honestly... I don't know where to start. I picked it up out of curiosity after hearing one of my mutuals on tiktok mentioned it, thinking 'pfffff... how bad can it be?'. BAD. Really bad. I honestly think the entire goal of the author was to gross people out. It worked. I initially DNF'd it after being introduced to the "hobby" of the second character. And then stupidly picked it back up and finished the read. I regret every word I read.

In short; it's about a security guard in a hospital who likes to have smexy times with the dead bodies in the morgue and a maternity doctor who likes to snack on dead babies while having fun with herself. They meet and then science what combining their "hobbies" would look like. And the book ends in gore.

It's very graphically, descriptively written with the sole purpose of making it as twisted and gross as the author is capable of.

DO NOT RECOMMEND READING IT
(literally the only plus is that other horrorbooks are childsplay now)

First book I’ve ever DNF. I’m on an extreme horror kick currently so I wanted to give this a try but almost halfway through this book I still felt as if it was written by an edgy teenage boy.

It seems like reviews are either “this is the worst book I ever read, I love it.” or “this is the worst book I ever read, I hate it”, but all the good reviews have no commentary about the actual substance of the book, they’re all just “well that was gross.” I understand feeling as if a book must be good because it gave you a visceral reaction but l personally need a little bit of substance with my violence.

To start, I find it extremely cool that we never know the name of the main character and we never even question it. (At least... I didn't realize it until I was finished and went to talk to someone about how funny the main character is.) I audibly laughed SO many times because he's just genuinely funny even though he's sooo twisted. We know every single character's name, even the scabby bartender whose presence takes up only a page or two... but never the one narrating. Idk why, but that's just really interesting to me. In terms of actual content... There's one scene that's just unnecessary, really all of them are, but they're also necessary to make the book what it is I guess? Why do we read things like this, guys? Lol. Every boundary was blown past and made laps around. Read at your own risk and choose a more lighthearted book afterward to wipe the slate clean. Or if you're like me, go to Reddit to find another demented one to dive into. xD

(P.S. - Necrophilia wasn't listed in the content warnings, but be aware it is mentioned all throughout the book.)

A book where cannibalism and necrophilia are the least taboo things depicted should not be allowed to be boring, but this book is painfully boring. It immediately hits the point of diminishing returns where you can tell the writer has nothing to offer but to shock you, so nothing they write is shocking anymore. Even though the plot centers on only the most deplorable acts imaginable, it’s genuinely mind numbing to read. The writing is way too bad to make you even care what’s happening. I can’t stress enough that I’m not bothered by reading the content in the book, I have a strong stomach, but I cannot forgive writing this bad

I'm shocked by how much i ended up liking this. it was intriguing as it was disgusting I couldn't put the book down and the way it's narrated in this almost comedic fashion is jarring yet compelling

Wow this sucked. I saw the majority of the low reviews and the few 5 star reviews so I assumed it's just one of those books that pushed bounds a bit. But it's not even a good kind of horror book, or even those books that leave you shocked and silent for a while because they made you see the world different.
It pushes way past the bounds of grossness and wrong. There's far more better books that push boundaries in this genre that make it work for the plot or that have a reason to have those things within the story.
This did not.
It's like the guy decided to just let the intrusive thoughts write this one for him.

Also, in terms of the writing, I hated how  the author just had to drop the four worded sentence or even the three worded sentence in every other page. Like man, please stop there's nothing in this. It doesn't add anything, it's more annoying than anything. It's not like the reader is going to forget what your characters are doing because it's the only thing they're doing.
And also the weird self insert sentences, that are breaking the fourth wall in a way? I'm not entirely sure if it's suppose to come from the perspective of main character as if he's writing out the story. Or the author himself trying to be funny or edgy by writing within the story stuff along the lines of, "If this isn't you thing, big whoops, it's going to be written in full detail. This is humorous so you can laugh. Yup I had to go into details here too lol

If you're wanting a book that speaks about feelings of being alienated from "regular" people and society because of how you are, and do a faaar better job of it. I'd say go with Convenience Store Woman or No Longer Human.
