this is just like. shock factor porn for edgy incels. i wanted it to be more because i’m so desensitised and want something that will make me recoil and uncomfortable, and while the subject matter itself is enough to do that the writing is just so.. cringey? (“so I figured I’d bite the bullet and just do it, Nike-style” LIKE CMON) and i hate that word. i don’t know. this could have been so fucked up and engaging but instead it was just fucked up and embarrassing. so many of the positive reviews for this book stem from ‘well it’s fucked up and appalling because that’s the point!’ yes we know, but that doesn’t mean we don’t also deserve good writing and an actual plot over just the same gore porn for however many pages. extreme horror can be good! this is unfortunately not an example of that.

I’d heard a lot of great things about this book, so I ended up giving it a shot. Once you get past the edgelord bullshit, it reads like an ultraviolent satire on normalcy, addiction, and the futile desire to be “unique.” There’s only one particular section I… skipped… but I could feel it was probably coming and was on the lookout for it.  I only have a handful of “hard limits”, but this book managed to hit one or two of them.

Overall, trying to be as objective as possible, I think it was mediocre, edging on bad. Could do without  the Try-Hard edginess, but I think there actually *was* a decent, intriguing love story hidden inside the shock value. I would not recommend this book to any other living soul.

Honestly... I don't know where to start. I picked it up out of curiosity after hearing one of my mutuals on tiktok mentioned it, thinking 'pfffff... how bad can it be?'. BAD. Really bad. I honestly think the entire goal of the author was to gross people out. It worked. I initially DNF'd it after being introduced to the "hobby" of the second character. And then stupidly picked it back up and finished the read. I regret every word I read.

In short; it's about a security guard in a hospital who likes to have smexy times with the dead bodies in the morgue and a maternity doctor who likes to snack on dead babies while having fun with herself. They meet and then science what combining their "hobbies" would look like. And the book ends in gore.

It's very graphically, descriptively written with the sole purpose of making it as twisted and gross as the author is capable of.

DO NOT RECOMMEND READING IT
(literally the only plus is that other horrorbooks are childsplay now)

First book I’ve ever DNF. I’m on an extreme horror kick currently so I wanted to give this a try but almost halfway through this book I still felt as if it was written by an edgy teenage boy.

It seems like reviews are either “this is the worst book I ever read, I love it.” or “this is the worst book I ever read, I hate it”, but all the good reviews have no commentary about the actual substance of the book, they’re all just “well that was gross.” I understand feeling as if a book must be good because it gave you a visceral reaction but l personally need a little bit of substance with my violence.

CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS! Do not! Read this book without checking the trigger warnings first, the main themes are cannibalism and necrophilia.

This book is not for everyone, it contains very disturbing and dark themes, and the descriptions are graphic and disgusting. I read it because it was recommended on a one-sit read TikTok I came across, with no warnings, and saw everyone in the comments talking about how this book shouldn't be recommended so casually which I agree with- do not recommend this book to someone without at least letting them know they should look up the TW's for it.

Point us I got curious and since I don't mind fucked up fictional content, decided to check it out.

As I said,  I don't mind fucked up fictional content....when it's well-written and executed properly. But this is written in a way where the purpose is just to shock the audience, and that's not the type of horror I like; I am giving it 1 1/4 stars because it was slightly interesting towards the end and I liked the final twist.

Not a book I would recommend. Not a book I would read again.

I'm shocked by how much i ended up liking this. it was intriguing as it was disgusting I couldn't put the book down and the way it's narrated in this almost comedic fashion is jarring yet compelling
