A sweet story about family and friendships. Lola is a fun, sassy and loveable old lady, what more could you want.

Although I felt we needed a lot more closure on Lola's "secret" at the motel because it felt a bit pointless and unnecessary as none of those extra character's stories were finished at all, I wanted to know what happened to them more than the rest of the story!

I do love how so many of Monica'a stories have intertwining plots and characters, it's so fun to read about characters you already heard of in a completely separate book!

not incredible, maybe not worth a full four stars, but just a genuine good read that made you feel warm and cosy

Mcinerney does this best - her stories about the Quinlan family are heartwearming and entertaining.
This time too she builds a great story around the family. I liked it better than its prequel and sequel.

It was a nice, light read but not the usual fare from McInerney.

Great holiday read worth 3.5 really. Read a review of Monica McInerney that likened reading her books to eating warm buttered toast. Would have to agree. Fittingly, I read this holidaying on a cruise, completely stress free, enjoyable, and easy. Definitely recommend for those who like family dramas. I love the characters and did consider rereading one of her others "The Alphabet Sisters" which relates to an earlier period of the same characters. What keeps it lower than a 4 is the fact that it didn't pull me in and make me think like another recent read "Too Close to Home". But, I will keep it on the bookshelf, in case I feel like another round of warm buttered toast.
