I forgot to mark when I started reading this, so the start date may not be accurate but it didn’t take me more than a week or two.

I enjoyed how much was packed into this book. Definitely a lot going on here.

I appreciated that there was not actually child rape, although it was implied and for a few pages I thought that’s where it was going. I mean, what happens to the village is arguably worse, but in the end the book was more about kindness than its many painful moments.

As per usual with me and books containing both magic and science, I wanted to know more about the rules of the universe. The story was fine. Characters were interesting and varied.

If there was a sequel, l’d probably read it. (I actually thought Escaping Exodus was a sequel, but goodreads says it’s not. I have it also and I’ll be reading it next!)

DNF at 88% seriously where the actual F was the editor with this. Is it a robot uprising book or a dark modern fantasy novel?! It can’t be both. Also outside of our 2 main kids everyone else feels like filler. Might make an exception for our big baddie but everyone else could go. A lot of potential here but too chaotic and not enough focus on one subject or another for it to be worth the read.

Really enjoyed this one, just the right amount of Sci-fi, fantasy/myth for me.

Did get a little lost during the more heavily myth portion, but came out the other side still enjoying the read.

Will be looking for others from this talented writer.

Every page holds a new surprise. Smart, fun, fast and with one of the most diverse cast of characters I've ever seen.

This book is a crazy ride.
The characters are very diverse and well developed, and the setting is very interesting.
Despite having many different POVs, we were always rooted on the moment, and I loved how it all come together at the end.

4.5 stars because I was absolutely in love with this book until the end -- and the end is still plenty fine. Just not as amazing as all the rest.

First off, I would classify this as a fantasy rather than science fiction. Sure, there are robots and such, but the focus is much more of demigods and magic. So I see it as a fantasy set in the future.

Much of the novel feels like it's composed of loosely related short stories. Part of the fun is seeing how these wonderful characters will all come together.

I loved the world building and the characters. I loved the mythic feel and the wonder. I will have to warn you that the book can be incredibly dark in places.

At any rate, I will definitely get any novel that Drayden does next. I can't wait to see what her imagination with give us.

I read this for book club and really enjoyed it. The initial part of the story feels a lot like the "prologues" I run for my pen-and-paper tabletop games, where each person is doing something a little bit unique and then those stories come together and make a greater whole. I really enjoyed the snark, the foils of Sydney and Nomvula, and the different kinds of powers and ways that people chose to use them. I think a lot of the characters come off as roles rather than people, but I also think that's an intentional choice on the part of the author given the story that's being told. I would certainly look up Drayden's other work.
