One by One is less Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians and more Ware's own In the Woods meets Lucy Foley's The Guest List.

I have said that Ware often spends too much time setting the stage and describing the characters...to the point of distraction.

One by One borders that. In fact Ware's hallmark of following a character after the crime resolution makes the story longer than it needs to be. However I do like her writing, and I love Imogene Church's narration (she has narrated every Ware book to which I have listened).

An Agatha Christie rip off that doesn’t quite pull it off. Murderer was obvious from the start.

i enjoyed the climax, the build up of tension. the beginning felt slow af tho, and the book feels super dated, like you can tell it’s a 2020s book. also lack of contractions made the writing feel stiff.

I was really excited for this book because typically I am really into Ruth Ware’s writing. This one was a big struggle for me. It was hard to keep the character’s straight and hard to remember who’s perspective was being told, so I had to keep going to the beginning of the chapter to see who was speaking. I couldn’t get interested in the characters and story line causing this to be a very long book for me.
