Enjoyed this but so much was missing for me!

I did like how they couldn't seem to keep away from each other and how Derek was making sure they could be together, and I liked how he was making sure the kids were safe and taken care of (car seats, being concerned about the babysitter's beliefs etc.).

What I didn't like was how unrealistic it was. There were absolutely zero consequences for the professor / student relationship, which I actually would have liked to see, especially once they became an established couple. Also, Shawn is just openly talking about things with Christian in classes and on campus, yet no one ever overhears or brings it to anyone's attention? Also found the childcare situation a bit unbelievable, but I did like how they all seem to become a family unit at the end.

It would definitely have been improved with Derek's POV because when he disappeared, we don't see what happens, we're just told - which I'm never a fan of!

I think if there was more realism and dual POV I could easily have rated this higher.

- Main Couple: Shawn Wyatt/Derek Rutledge
- POVs Included: Single Male POV (Shawn)

SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)

Shawn is failing his Fluid Mechanics college class and he needs to pass that class in order to graduate. So when his friend suggests he flirts a little with the professor, he decides to go for it because he’s desperate.

What he doesn’t expect is to enter into a confusing ongoing affair with his professor. Especially considering the fact that he’s always thought of himself as straight.

REVIEW:

Like the prequel in this series, this was super hot! The chemistry between Shawn and Rutledge was phenomenal. I also loved Rutledge’s dominance. It’s not for everyone, but it worked for me.

I really liked Shawn as a character too. He’s strong and brave to take care of his sisters after their parents died. I can’t help but admire him for that.

I also liked the connection this one had to the prequel (titled “Straight Boy”). Shawn is Sage’s cousin from that book. We also get to find out the crime Xavier really did to land in prison. In my first review I even said there was no way that he really “killed eight people at a mall”. It was actually funny how it was brought up in this book and Xavier was teasing Sage for believing that he really did that for so long.

The whole book definitely was four stars until the end, which I felt was an abrupt ending and didn’t properly wrap up. Yes, they are happy. But it still just felt like it needed an epilogue or something. It just needed a better conclusion.

Overall it was hot and steamy with great characters. Loved everything about it except the abrupt ending, which was more of a HFN than a HEA.

This book was so hot. Rutledge having a weakness for Shawn and paying him? It was a fun way to have Shawn still insist to himself that he was straight despite how much he was enjoying it and how he grew to like Rutledge. I'm not really sure how Shawn seemed to have time for anything else (no wonder he was doing so poorly in school). His two younger sisters were definitely just props to be an excuse for why Shawn needed money and was struggling with juggling all his responsibilities. They probably could have been cut, but it worked okay. The sexual tension and the explicit scenes are definitely the highlight of the book.
