Quite a slow start especially as it's not set after the previous book. Found it harder to get into than the first one. Picked up in the last 50 ish pages and enjoyed the endÂ

dang i forgot a lot in ten year....well it is ten years
rereading this book was just as enjoyable as reading it the first time.
i felt sorry for the main character and kept on wanting to give the poor kid a hug. i teared up at the end T_T
would definitely recommend!

The second book in The Demonata by Darren Shan. Kernel Fleck has always known he's weird. He sees lights. Strange, multi-colored patches of light, swirling through the air. But it's not until a window opens into a demon world, with horrific consequences, that Kernel discovers his powers. As a Disciple, his mission is to hunt vicious, powerful demons to the death. Darren Shan has such a complex imagination, it's hard to think of many that can compete. It's strange going from a completely different point of view in book one to a new one in book two, but I see this as a prequel, kind of, and backstory. I enjoyed the main character Kernel. His loneliness spoke to me in the beginning and his painful plight in the ending convinced me. What was fascinating about this book was the full-fledged magic. Each had their own brand and seeing it being explored always excited the kid in me. The story held a few twists and surprises along the way, especially with the decision of a disciple, a revelation of a thief, and how life changes as it goes on without someone. Meeting the Disciples and seeing how mixed they were was a treat. It took me a moment to recognize who Dervish was since it has been a little while since I read the first book. There are a lot of questions still waiting to be answered but this pulls out the tension and suspense of the series.

This is a very odd series and I am totally addicted. As the second book in the series it deals with a different boy but the same evil demon (aren't all demons evil? lol)Lord Loss. It did have some characters from the first book so its tying everything together...and according to my son continues to do so with the remaining books.
Its a very descriptive book-heads ripped off, body explosions and more. This one has a few sad moments as well. The whole book flowed well and kept me interested. I will be continuing the series because I have to know if Lord Loss ever gets defeated!

Book #23 Read in 2016
The Demon Thief by Darren Shan
This is the second book in a young adult paranormal/horror series. While graphic, these books will engage reluctant readers, especially middle school and high school boys. In this book, Kernel goes into the demon world after his brother is kidnapped by a demon. Will he be able to rescue his brother and get the pair back to their parents? I will continue this series. I borrowed this book from the public library.
