I never thought I’d say this about a western, but I really enjoyed this book! I originally borrowed it from the library but after finishing it, I found a used hardback and purchased it- that’s how much I enjoyed it.  So why did I read it in the first place , since it seems I don’t like westerns? It was part of my book challenge for 2022- plus my dad loved westerns, Louis L’Amour in particular.

Bowdrie is several short stories (5-20 pages each with some local histories added in between the stories) about Chick Bowdrie, Texas Ranger. Yes, the stories are predictable,(gunslingers, bank robbers, stage coaches, saloons) but they’re a fun, easy read. I’m not sure I could sit and read book after book after book, but they make for a great change of pace. I will definitely be back.

Chick Bowdrie is a Texas Ranger and the Western pulp noir stories in this book center around a few of his cases. L'Amour wrote most of them back in the 1940s.
